Third grade is the first year your child will take the MCA III (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment) tests in Reading and Math. The Reading test will be taken on paper and the Math test will be taken on the computer.
To prepare for the tests we will have practice worksheets for both subjects that offer the students lots of sample questions similar to questions they will see on the tests. In Math we also use material that reviews the standards that the test is based on. Much of the Math test is made up of word problems so we will pay close attention to what the problem is asking so the students can decide how to solve it. |
How can you help?
1. Make sure your child gets enough rest each night so he or she can be attentive each day at school. 2. Make sure your child has breakfast each day. If there isn't time at home, our school food service offers breakfast every day. 3. Encourage your child to read each night at home. Ask your child to tell your about the book they are reading on occasion. 4. Encourage your child to take the extra opportunities to practice that are offered such as the links on this page and on the math page of this website. |
